Professor Nikhar Gaikwad and co-author Pavithra Suryanarayan (Columbia Ph.D., 2016) have been awarded the American Political Science Association's 2019 Franklin L. Burdette/Pi Sigma Alpha Award, which is awarded annually for the overall best paper presented at the previous year's annual meeting. This award will be presented for their paper, “Economic and Ethnic Determinants of Trade Preferences: Evidence from India."
Professor Gaikwad also has been selected as the recipient of the 2019 Juan Linz Prize for Best Dissertation by the American Political Science Association's Comparative Democratization Section. The award will be presented for his dissertation, "Identity Politics and Economic Policy."
Professor Gaikwad's dissertation also received Honorable Mention for the Mancur Olson Best Dissertation Award, given by APSA's Political Economy Section.
