Department Email Lists

The Department of Political Science maintains several email lists for undergraduate and graduate students.

All students enrolled in a political science major, minor, or concentration (including joint majors)  are subscribed to [email protected]. All students enrolled in the Ph.D. program are subscribed to [email protected], and all students enrolled in the freestanding M.A. program are subscribed to [email protected]. The department manages subscriptions to these lists, and students may not unsubscribe from them.

These lists are the primary channels by which the department communicates information related to academic policies and requirements, important dates and deadlines, and information that promotes student safety and welfare.

They are also used to publicize job opportunities, calls for papers and proposals, and announcements about academic opportunities for which eligibility is restricted to students in the department or for which the sponsoring entity may offer preferential consideration to students in the department.

To minimize the number of unwanted messages that students subscribed to these lists may receive, pols-un, pols-gr, and pols-ma are moderated, which means that only persons approved by the department may post directly to list subscribers.

Students who serve in department leadership positions such as Political Science Graduate Student Council officers, Lead Teaching Fellows, and seminar and workshop organizers may be provided unmoderated access to these lists for the purpose of communicating information connected to their areas of responsibility. Please see the Graduate Program Coordinator or the Director of Academic Administration and Finance to request unmoderated access.

Announcements are forwarded to POLS-OPPS as a courtesy to sponsors and list subscribers, and the fact that the department forwards them does not necessarily mean that the department endorses them.

Subscription to POLS-OPPS is restricted to Columbia and Barnard faculty, students, and alumni. Please visit the subscription page as desired to join the list and set subscription preferences.

The department uses POLS-JOBS to forward announcements about academic, non-academic, full-time, and part-time jobs and internships for which eligibility is not restricted to students in the department.
