Political Theory

Robab Vaziri is a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University, with a primary focus in political theory.

Prior to joining Columbia, she studied at Johns Hopkins University, where she earned an M.A. in philosophy and B.A. degrees in philosophy and political science, with a minor in women, gender, and sexuality studies. She was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Her dissertation, provisionally titled After Capital: From Value to Calculation In-Kind, explores alternatives to market coordination. Drawing in part on insights from the socialist calculation debates, which examined whether rational economic calculation is possible in a post-capitalist society, her research considers how social institutions might function without relying on the commensuration of value. In doing so, she engages with the Austrian School’s epistemic objections concerning the articulation and aggregation of dispersed knowledge.
