Research Interest

Daniel Markovits is a PhD Candidate in political science at Columbia University, specializing in American politics. His research examines how American voters, parties, and institutions respond to the perception that their opponents pose a threat to democracy. His dissertation explores how strategic reasoning can help preserve democratic norms as voters and elites anticipate the reactions of opponents and engage in complex behaviors, such as voting in the primary of the opposing party.

Mr. Markovits earned his B.A. in political science and economics from Lafayette College.
