Courses

This lecture and discussion course examines the intersection of intergroup relations and politics. The course will (1) provide an overview of insights from the social psychological literature on how our social group identities shape intergroup relations, (2) examine how social and political contexts shape intergroup prejudice, discrimination and political behavior, (3) analyze intergroup political conflict and cooperation in practice, and (4) assess interventions designed to improve intergroup relations. We will draw upon literatures from both political science and psychology, and examples from countries across the globe. During this course students will learn how intergroup relations affect politics and how politics affects intergroup relations, and will be able to drawn on this knowledge to better understand politics and social relations.
