Professor Alfred Stepan, 1936-2017

Alfred Stepan, Wallace S. Sayre Professor Emeritus of Government, died on September 27, 2017. A leading scholar and teacher in the areas of comparative politics, theories of democratic transitions, federalism, and the world's religious systems and democracy, Professor Stepan served as dean of Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs from 1983 to 1991.
