Political Theory

Samuel Westra is a master’s candidate in the Department of Political Science. His primary subfield is political theory, and his research focuses on modern thought concerning political ethics, conceptions of public goods, and theories of justice. He is also interested in exploring the intersection of these normative concepts with quantitative approaches to political study.

Samuel graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College (IL), where he earned dual B.A. degrees in History/Social Science and Secondary Education. He has experience teaching in secondary schools and brings his passion for education to his work as a graduate student. A central goal of his scholarship and teaching is to encourage others to thoughtfully and rigorously consider their roles in society and engage with the questions that arise from them.
