Samuel S.H. Chan is a Ph.D. student in the department of Political Science at Columbia University. His research broadly concerns the role of psychology in international relations. Specifically, he is interested in the way in which the psychological underpinnings of decision-making influence international political economy, with a particular regional focus on China and more broadly Asia-Pacific.
Mr. Chan’s research has been published in Journal of Conflict Resolution (“Managing Nationalism: Experiments in China,” 2024, with Kai Quek). Prior to Columbia University, he received an M.Phil. from the University of Hong Kong, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
