Alessandra Tufiño

Research Interest

Alessandra Tufiño is an M.A. student in political science at Columbia University. Her research examines how terrorist groups incorporate gender-based violence into their strategies and the ways in which states and the international community respond.

Ms. Tufiño earned her B.A. from the University of Chicago, where she majored in political science and gender and sexuality studies, graduating cum laude with honors in both majors. Her undergraduate thesis compared the anti-abortion policies of Mussolini’s Italy and Ceaușescu’s Romania, analyzing the ideological motivations behind both regimes’ approaches. Prior to enrolling at Columbia, she interned in the United States House of Representatives and completed a year-long Arabic language program.
