President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) came to office in October 2014 amid high hopes that he would enact reforms that would lay the foundation for a more balanced economy, a more accountable political system, and a more equitable society. Recently, however, Jokowi has cut a number of politically expedient deals that appear to indicate his reform agenda has been abandoned as he cultivates political allies ahead his 2019 re-election bid. One of Indonesia?s most astute political observers, Endy Bayuni, will assess the Jokowi administration at this halfway point and make some implications regarding its future.
