Nicholas Pangakis

Research Interest


Nick Pangakis is a M.A. student in Political Science specializing in American politics. His primary research interests are American political thought, American political development, and the intersection between public policy, political institutions, and law. More narrowly, he has particular focuses in racial and ethnic politics, immigration, and the implications of rising inequality.

Prior to Columbia, Mr. Pangakis earned his BA in Political Science at Boston College. His senior thesis during undergraduate study – “The Application of American Freedom: From W.E.B. Du Bois to Kendrick Lamar” – analyzes fundamentals of American civil liberties and explores legislative and constitutional development in regard to race in America. The paper was awarded Boston College’s John Marshall Program Essay Prize.

Mr. Pangakis’ professional experience complements the academic dimension as well. Most recently, he served as Policy Advisor and Legislative Aide for Massachusetts State Senator Diana DiZoglio. Prior to working in the Massachusetts State House, he worked as a Legal Support Associate and Interim Clinic Supervisor at the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project.
