Research Interest

Dr. Gerrard P. Bushell is the Chair of CAG Holdings, a dedicated investment company for airport infrastructure for The Carlyle Group. While serving as Chair of CAG, he also served as President and CEO of the $9.5 billion New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He successfully led the team, closing and delivering the largest single-asset project financing in US history during a global pandemic, carrying it through development, design, lease close, financial close, and construction.

In 2015, Dr. Bushell was appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the New York State Senate as President and CEO of The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, one of the nation’s largest developers of infrastructure and issuers of tax-exempt financing. He led over $38 billion of private and public debt issuances and oversaw the work of underwriters and financial advisors for whose selection he was responsible. 

Before leading DASNY, Dr. Bushell was an accomplished senior investment advisor who raised billions of private and public investment capital and counseled leading institutional investors as a Director for BNY Mellon, Director in the Client Partner Group at KKR, Managing Director at Arden Asset Management, and Head of Institutional Sales at Clearbridge Investments, formerly Citi Asset Management.

Dr. Bushell started his career in government and labor serving in senior roles for New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, NYC Councilwoman C. Virginia Fields, and the New York City public employees union, District Council 37. A graduate of Columbia University in both the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Bushell holds a B.A., M.A., and PhD. in political science from the Department of Political Science, where he holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor teaching state politics and finance.
