Biography

Elena Barham is a PhD student in political science, with a general focus in comparative politics and political economy. She has specific interests in the study of violence and security policy, migration, religion, and non-state institutions with a regional focus in Mexico and Central America. Her current research focuses on religious responses to violence in Mexico, and has received support from the Institute for Latin American Studies (ILAS).

Prior to Columbia, she was a James C. Gaither Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington D.C. She holds a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Northwestern University.
