Ece Tekbulut is a Ph.D. candidate in political theory, with a focus on democratic theory. Her research interests include normative defenses of democracy and political parties, theories of the future, cross-disciplinary paradigms of risk, and emergency politics.
Ms. Tekbulut’s doctoral dissertation explores the question of how societies should navigate an uncertain future. She offers an account of why democracies should and can cope with contingencies like the COVID pandemic and the risks it poses and still uphold the principles of political equality, value pluralism, and political contestation. As part of her project, she also investigates how the future and uncertainty have been conceived of and become politically relevant and proposes a more nuanced conceptualization of risk.
Ms. Tekbulut holds an M.A. in philosophy from King’s College London and B.A. in political science and philosophy from Sabanci University in Istanbul.
