Resources for Visitors

Professors and professional researchers may visit Columbia for a period up to one year in Visiting Scholar status.  Click here for details about Visiting Scholar status at Columbia University. Political scientists should direct preliminary inquiries about Visiting Scholar sponsorship to the proposed faculty sponsor or to Elizabeth Howe.

Ph.D. candidates in political science may be sponsored by the department to visit Columbia in Visiting Scholar status or as Special Non-Degree students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.  Click here for information about both arrangements.  Preliminary inquiries should be directed to the Graduate Program Coordinator.

In most cases, students and scholars do not require Visiting Scholar status to access Columbia libaries.  Please consult the Library Information Office for details about Columbia libraries access for non-affiliates.

Information about visiting for prospective students, groups, and tourists is available here.

Email List for Event Announcements

Visitors may subscribe to the POLS-friends email list. Pols-friends is the list to which the department sends announcements about seminars, conferences, and other academic events of interest to social scientists, whether sponsored by the department or by other university and external agencies. This is a public list.

Please visit the subscription page as desired to join the list and set subscription preferences.
