To maintain satisfactory academic progress and continue in the program, all students must successfully complete ALL components of both their major and minor field exams no later than the second Friday of classes in the sixth semester (or the date of January orals, whichever comes later). This requirement will hold whether the minor is a traditional subfield, methods, or a special minor; whether the requirements include an exam, a paper and oral defense, or any other format. This includes revisions to a methods or special minor paper, or a second attempt at passing an exam. (Students may, of course, continue to take course work upon completion of comprehensive exams.)

Dissertation Development Grants: March 20, 2017

The department will award grants up to $3,000 on a competitive basis to fund research-related travel, research assistance, data and surveys, and other expenses directly related to dissertation research. To apply, students must be in good academic standing and must submit to the Graduate Coordinator a research proposal for review by the Fellowship Committee. Grants awarded in Spring 2016 are for proposed activities to be carried out in Summer 2016 or in the 2016 – 2017 academic year. Please see the call for applications from the Graduate Coordinator in late February for more information on how to apply.
