I am a PhD Candidate in the Columbia University Department of Political Science. I am currently a Visiting Scholar at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland. My research interests include contentious strategies in civil wars and organizational development of armed actors.
In my dissertation, I explore how and why some rebel organizations unilaterally employ nonviolent strategies in the context of a civil war. As part of this research, I have conducted in-depth elite interviews with former violent and nonviolent activists in Dili, Timor-Leste. My project has been supported by the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and the Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict, and Complexity (AC4) at the Columbia University Earth Institute.
Prior to attending Columbia for my MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees, I graduated Magna cum Laude from Wellesley College. I am originally from Zurich, Switzerland.
