Ben is a Ph.D. student in Political Theory. He is interested in the origins and development of the modern state, and critiques of theories that describe it. In particular, he is interested in sovereignty, territoriality, and studying non-territorial political forms. His research focuses on normative conditions for legitimate possession of territory. Other interests include the history of political thought and medieval history.
Ben graduated from Goucher College in 2012 with a BA in History and social theory, where he completed a thesis on New Deal jurisprudence. He received his MA in Political Science from Columbia University in 2014. He is currently a TA for Introduction to Political Theory, taught by Nadia Urbinati.
