Lynn Weiss's death coincided with the desire of the Department of Political Science to add a student focus to the Lindsay Rogers Common Room, which houses the Lindsay Rogers book collection. In consultation with Lynn Weiss's family, Professor Wayne Wilcox, former Chair of the department, proposed that a book collection honoring Lynn would provide such a focus. The Lynn Weiss Memorial Collection was created with contributions to an endowed fund from Lynn's family, friends, fellow students, and Columbia faculty members.
Today, the collection is located in the Lynn Weiss Resource Room, 742 International Affairs Building, and contains over 600 volumes drawn from all fields in political science, though its main concentrations are in international relations and comparative politics. The collection includes a wide selection of classic works as well as an extensive range of recent works, many of which appear on the field survey syllabi and on the reading lists for Ph.D. qualifying exams. The collection is intended primarily as a resource for graduate students preparing for qualifying exams in international relations, but it is available to all department faculty and students.
The collection is stewarded by Professor Jack Snyder and maintained by the Lynn Weiss Fellow, who is selected by application.
